I am sure you are well aware that the State of Washington is currently experiencing catastrophic wildfires. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have been affected and the thousands of firefighters battling these fires around the clock.
Yesterday I received a message from Jim Brogren, President of the Lone Palm Foundation, reaching out to make sure our club members know that if any of you suffer property damage due to wildfires, you are eligible to apply for assistance from the Lone Palm Foundation. For those of you new to the club, the Lone Palm Foundation is the charitable arm of Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHIP), our national governing body.
Although we celebrated our club’s birthday this past Saturday (June 6th), the actual birthday is today (June 11th)!! It was 31 years ago today that the Parrot Heads of Puget Sound came into existence, so let me be the first to toast you all and say, “Happy Birthday PHoPS”.
Through the years, many members have come and gone. We survived a pandemic and the passing of Jimmy Buffett himself. We have volunteered thousands of hours and raised thousands of dollars for many worthy causes. We cheered on breast cancer survivors, danced at concerts, and made lifelong friends from coast to coast. We also polished off way too many margaritas and Landsharks to count. While the number of Parrothead clubs around the country is dwindling slightly, PHoPS membership remains strong thanks to the hard work of our current Board of Directors and those of you who have served on the Board in the past.
I wish to thank you all for being members, and I look forward to seeing where the next 31 years take us!!!
